AMHERST, Mass. - UMass Hall of Famer and former NFL running back Rene Ingoglia will join the UMass Sports Network as a color analyst for the 2009 football season. Ingoglia, who starred for the Minutemen from 1992-95, is third in rushing yardage and second in rushing touchdowns in program history.

"I have been looking to break into broadcasting as a color analyst and to be able to do so at UMass - one of the nation's top FBS programs - is phenomenal," said Ingoglia. "I have many great memories at UMass and to be able to return to the place which allowed me to achieve many dreams on and on and off the field is truly remarkable."

Ingoglia was an All-American in 1994 and 1995, and a finalist for the Walter Payton Award in '94. He earned All Yankee Conference honors three times, and finished his career as the conference's all-time leading rusher with 4,624 yards. His 54 rushing touchdowns were second-most in FCS history when his UMass career ended in 1995.

"We are so fortunate to add someone of Rene's stature to our football broadcast team" said Josh Maurer, UMass' Manager of Broadcast Properties. "He is undoubtedly one of the greatest players in program history. His presence in the booth will add enormous credibility to our broadcasts. I'm thrilled that our listeners will be able to hear insights from a Hall of Famer."

Following his college career, Ingoglia played parts of three NFL seasons (1996-98) with the Buffalo Bills and the Washington Redskins. He then played the 1999 season with the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe, where he helped lead the team to the World Bowl Championship.

Ingoglia joins play-by-play announcer Maurer and co-analyst Matt Goldstein in the broadcast booth.

"I am very excited about this opportunity and will work as hard to be a top color commentator as I did as a UMass football player," Ingoglia said. "I can't wait to put on a headset."

Ingoglia, 37, resides in Orlando, Florida with his wife Jessica and daughters Katie Christine (6) and Emily Nancy (4). He works as a detective within the Criminal Investigations Division of the Orlando Police Department.
