UMass Women's Tennis Team Sweeps, Beating Siena, 7-0

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The University of Massachusetts women's tennis team dominated on the courts yet again as it defeated the Siena Saints on Sunday, 7-0. This marked the second straight win for the UMass (8-6) after a 7-0 sweep Saturday against Hofstra. The Minutewomen won all three doubles matches and all six singles matches without dropping a set. UMass improves to 8-6 heading into the outdoor season.
Moving up the doubles rankings was the unstoppable duo of Laura Danai and Maude Lecluyse. It was a close match at No. 1 doubles but the team was able to play tough and win it 8-6. Kaitlyn Carpenter and Candynce Boney breezed through at No. 2 doubles defeating their opponents 8-3. And at No. 3, Tanisha Hodgson and Lauren MacKay were challenged to the very end finally pulling out the win, 9-7.
Singles play was highlighted at No. 1 where Boney defeated Sarah Mayer, the two-time MAAC player of the year and reigning MAAC player of the week, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Boney is even at singles with an 11-11 record. Carpenter saw a higher spot in the singles lineup, earning her win at No.2. At No.3 Hodgson defeated Danielle Crill, 6-2, 6-3. Hodgson is now 12-9 in singles play making her the Minutewomen with the most singles wins.
The Minutewomen return to action in Florida next week where they will take on Barry University on March 16 and Florida Atlantic on March 17.
