UMass Football Holds Annual Banquet

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass football team held it's annual banquet at the Campus Center on Friday, Feb. 27, where new head coach Kevin Morris ran the show for the first time. Coach Morris honored the graduating seniors, as well as announcing many team awards and honoring national award winners.

Team awards were given out to 14 individuals. Most Valuable Player was given to the man that holds nearly every career record in UMass passing history -- Liam Coen. The Outstanding Defensive Player went to Jeromy Miles while Tony Nelson received the Outstanding Offensive Player. Brett Arnold and Courtney Robinson shared the team's Outstanding Special Teams Player.

The Marcel Shipp Iron Minuteman Award was won by Vladimir Ducasse, Kyle Harrington, and Armando Cuko.

This Vic Fusia Most Improved Offensive Player was claimed by Victor Cruz while the Vic Fusia Most Improved Defensive Player went to Shane Viveiros.

Chris Cefalo took the Academic Achievement Award. Tom Gilson earned the Outstanding Offensive Scout Team Player, while Kumar Davis and Chris Chamberlin shared the Outstanding Defensive Scout Team Player.

Coach Morris also acknowledged the All-Americans. Punter Brett Arnold, a first team All-American, was named the FCS Statistical Punting Champion. Junior Jeromy Miles was a second-team honoree, while junior Vladimir Ducasse earned honorable mention. Senior Courtney Robinson also earned honorable mention, in addition to Fabulous 50 All-American.

Next, Coach Morris brought up Liam Coen, Brett Arnold, Josh Jennings, and Courtney Robinson. Arnold, Jennings, and Robinson all earned All ECAC honors. Arnold also was recognized for the New England Football Writers All-Star award. Coen obtained the Harry Agganis Award, given to the top senior football player in New England.

The All CAA team brought the most people on stage. Brett Arnold, Victor Cruz, Vladimir Ducasse, Josh Jennings, Tony Nelson, Jeromy Miles, and Courtney Robinson were all named to the first team. Liam Coen grabbed second team honors. Sean Calicchio, Kyle Harrington, and Jeremy Horne earned third team All CAA.

Additionally, a highlight film produced by NFL Films Mark Chmielinski was shown.
