A pair of pre-Thanksgiving games are on tap tonight for the Minutemen. The No. 9 hockey team travels to Vermont to face the No. 18 Catamounts at 7 p.m. Here in Amherst, the men's basketball team hosts St. Francis (N.Y.) at 7 p.m. Both teams are seeking to enter the holiday break with wins. JTAM has news on the football team and its All-CAA selections and info on how Northeastern's football team ceasing impacts UMass.

  • The Springfield Republican, Daily Hampshire Gazette and Daily Collegian have previews of UMass' hoop game with St. Francis (N.Y.) as the Minutemen begin a stretch of five games in 11 days.

  • While the Massachusetts basketball team will have its ups and downs due to its inexperience this season, UMass coach Derek Kellogg hopes that his young players will mature quickly. Through three games already, players like Terrell Vinson and Freddie Riley have grown and shown a lot of development. The Daily Collegian has a feature.

  • Ron Chimelis also has three more stories on UMass basketball that appeared on Masslive.com: Raphiael Putney might redshirt, Sean Carter on defensive intensity and Hashim Bailey may return from injury.

  • The Press of Atlantic City has another preview of the UMass Minutemen in preparation of the Legends Classic this weekend.

  • In the Springfield Republican, Daily Hampshire Gazette, Burlington Free Press and Daily Collegian there are previews of the UMass hockey game at Vermont at 7 p.m.

  • UMass hockey is up to No. 10 in the USCHO.com poll, moving from No. 11. They are No. 9 in the USA Today Poll.

  • The Springfield Republican has a story on UMass hockey signing five players to NLIs.

  • The Orlando Sentinel has a story on Florida and Florida State basketball as the Gators and Seminoles battle on Tuesday night before UF heads to Atlantic City, where they might play UMass on Saturday.

  • UMass football All-CAA pick Jeromy Miles is a candidate for the Buck Buchanan Award as the top defender in the nation. Check out the Sports Network's look at the candidates.

  • The Examiner has a story on UMass' nine All-CAA selections.

  • After his first season as head coach of UMass football Kevin Morris gives his reflections on the year to the Daily Hampshire Gazette.

  • In the Daily Hampshire Gazette, Matt Vautour has story about Northeastern's football situation with quotes from Minuteman head coach Kevin Morris and his predecessor Don Brown, both who coached at NU from 2000-03.

  • One more from Chimelis has UMass A.D. John McCutcheon's reaction to Northeastern dropping football in the Springfield Republican. In his blog on Gazettenet.com, Matt Vautour has more comments on the Huskies' dissolving their program.

  • The Massachusetts swimming and diving teams both earned third place at Boston University's Terrier Invitational. Jason Cook led the men's diving team with two victories, while the swim team had 22 top-five individual finishes. The Daily Collegian has the story.

    Just Take A Minute returns this Monday morning with stories on the UMass basketball teams picking up wins this weekend at home. Also JTAM recaps the football finale, a shootout loss at Hofstra. Lots of news on alums in pros including a match-up in Israel between the teams Stephane Lasme and Tony Gaffney play for.

  • The UMass women's basketball team knocked off 2009 NCAA Tournament team Villanova, 55-47, on Sunday at the Mullins Center. Check out recaps from the Daily Hampshire Gazette, Examiner, Boston Globe, and the Philadelphia Daily News.

  • Here are the recaps from the UMass 94-68 win over Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday: Springfield Republican, Daily Hampshire Gazette and the Associated Press.

  • The Daily Hampshire Gazette has a notebook on men's hoops leading with Freddie Riley and his readiness for shooting.

  • Boston Globe sports editor Joe Sullivan has a very interesting story on how basketball match-ups are sometimes set up as Northeastern played Utah State on Saturday. He mentions UMass is seeking three home games for 2010-11 among other teams seeking games.

  • The Press of Atlantic City, has a preview of the UMass basketball team as A.C. prepares to host the Legends Classic this weekend.

  • Looking ahead to Friday's foe in the Legends Classic, Rutgers lost to Vermont, 77-71 on Sunday in their pod of the Legends Classic. The Scarlet Knights were led by by Mike Rosario who had 22 points, and knocked down four 3-pointers.

  • Check out the Atlantic 10 Basketball Notebook. It includes info on all 14 teams with a blurb on Anthony Gurley's 21-point effort vs. Arkansas-Fort Smith.

    Stephane Lasme and Maccabi Tel Aviv are 5-0 in the Israeli Winner League.

  • In Israel, the teams UMass alums Stephane Lasme and Tony Gaffney faced off on Sunday in the Winner League. Lasme's Maccabi Tel Aviv downed Gaffney's Gilboa Galil, 98-91. Lasme started and played 21 minutes scoring four points. Gaffney did not see any action. In case you missed it, Tony Gaffney was part of the UMass basketball blog on Saturday, logging on from Israel.

  • If you pick up the new issue of ESPN Magazine check out page 23 for an awesome fullpage photo of UMass' Jonathan Quick in action with the Los Angeles Kings.

  • Recaps of UMass' football finale at Hofstra, a 52-38 loss to the Pride, come from the Springfield Republican, Daily Hampshire Gazette, Newsday, Worcester Telegram & Gazette and the Examiner.

  • The Day In New London, Conn. has a story on the evolution of UConn football after the Huskies won at Notre Dame on Saturday. The story mentions UMass in this graf: And yet maybe the best dose of perspective of all came from UConn play-by-play voice Joe D'Ambrosio, who opened Saturday's broadcast from college football's home office mentioning that on Nov. 20, 1999, 10 years ago this weekend, the UConn Huskies were playing UMass in football.

  • Another mention of UMass football comes from Sea Coast Online in New Hampshire. UNH will be travelling to McNeese State for the FCS playoffs. Few players on the Wildcats have ever visited Louisiana, much less played a game there. The closest personal tie McDonnell could come up with, when asked Sunday, was his friendship with former UMass coach Mark Whipple, who won a playoff game at McNeese during the Minutemen's run to the national championship in 1998 and described the atmosphere at 17,000-seat Cowboy Stadium -- "The Hole" -- as "electric."

  • The Boston Globe reports that Northeastern football has played its final game and will cease its gridiron team.

  • In NFL action on Sunday, Jeremy Cain's Jacksonville Jaguars held on to beat the Buffalo Bills, 18-15. Cain snapped seven times on kicks and punts for the Jags.

  • In the New York Jets' 31-14 loss to the New England Patriots, James Ihedigbo made three special teams tackles including one on the game's opening kickoff.

  • Matt Lawrence was inactive with the Baltimore Ravens in their 17-15 loss to the 10-0 Indianapolis Colts, due to a knee injury.
