WATERVILLE, VALLEY, N.H. - Andrew Hawes won the Giant Slalom race on Saturday at the Plymouth State Carnival in Waterville Valley, helping the Minutemen to a third place team finish in the Slalom. Hawes (Concord, Mass.) continued his top-five finishes the next day in the Giant Slalom, finishing fourth and helping the Minutemen to a first place finish on Sunday. UMass Skiing will be back in action on Friday when they will compete in the MIT Carnival at Loon Mountain before traveling to Pat's Peak for the Slalom on Saturday.

Hawes finished with a time of 1:26.07 in the Slalom on Saturday, while finishing with a time of 2:02.49 in the Giant Slalom on Sunday. Also continuing his success in the Giant Slalom was Matthew Small (Shelburne Falls, Mass.), who placed third with a time of 2:01.47 on Sunday. The Minutemen had five skiers place in the top-ten in the Giant Slalom, including Stefan Ogle (Pittsfield, Mass.), who finished fifth with a time of 2:02.96. Alex Zahoruiko (North Andover, Mass.) and Tom Sampson (Plymouth, N.H.) placed ninth and tenth, respectively, in the Giant Slalom. Adam Pogorzelski (Freehold, N.J.) finished 14th with a time of 2:04.39 on Sunday, while Travis Hopkins (North Andover, Mass.) placed 17th with a time of 2:04.54.

Saturday's Slalom did not bode as well for the Men, who only had one skier finish in the top-ten. Ogle placed 15th with a time of 1:29.74 while Zahoruiko was tied for 18th with a time of 1:30.28.

Jamie Taloumis (Chicopee, Mass.) led the Minutewomen throughout the weekend, finishing 15th on both Saturday and Sunday with times of 1:35.77 and 2:09.07. The Women's squad had better results on Sunday, placing three skiers in the top-15 including Emily Shilletto's (Toronto, Ont.) fourth place finish (2:06.43). Abby Nolan (Duxbury, Mass.) placed eighth on Sunday with a time of 2:08.27. Amy Gifford (Readfield, Maine) skied consistently for the Minutewomen during the weekend, placing 18th in the Giant Slalom (2:09.35) before a 17th place finish in Saturday's Slalom (1:37.28).

Heidi Skinner (Westeron, Vt.) skied to a 19th place finish on Sunday (2:09.77), while Lauren Levey (Mequon, Wis.) finished 19th on Saturday (1:37.55). Alison Hubbard (Colden, N.Y.) placed 24th (1:38.63) in Saturday's Slalom event.
