PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The UMass women's tennis team took all but one match against George Washington (5-10, 0-3 Atlantic 10) yesterday giving them the 6-1 advantage and the win to keep the Minutewomen undefeated in conference play. For the third time this season, the Minutewomen (8-9, 2-0 A10) swept the doubles games to take the doubles point and the early lead.
Masha Pozar (Ljubljana, Slovenia) and No. 1 doubles partner Candynce Boney (Las Vegas, Nev.) won their fourth doubles match in a row and their 20th of the season adding to Pozar's career doubles record which now stands at 70. Laura Danai (Holyoke, Mass.) and Maude Lecluyse (Montreal, Canada) won their eleventh doubles match of the year, and the sixth in their last seven games, with their 8-3 win over their No. 2 foe.
Danai also kept her singles winning streak alive at seven consecutive matches beating her No. 6 singles foe, 6-2, 6-2. With Pozar's No. 1 singles win, she moved into a tie for second place with Jackie Braunstein (1995-99). Pozar now has 63 career singles wins. She is only four away from tying the record of her former doubles partner, Michele Speiss who holds the record with 67.
