AMHERST, Mass. - The 2008 CAA Football schedule was released Monday by Commissioner Thomas E. Yeager, and is made up of 91 games over a span of 13 weeks.

"Last season we placed a record five teams in the NCAA Playoffs as three advanced to the quarterfinals and the remaining two lost on the final play of their first-round games," Yeager said. "Delaware and Richmond both advanced to last year's National Semifinals, and the Blue Hens finished the 2007 season as the National Runner-Up."

The Minutemen will open the conference portion of their schedule on Sept. 13 when they travel to James Madison. They play their conference home-opener on October 4 when they play host to national finalist Delaware. UMass heads east to take on in-state rival Northeastern the following week, and returns home to take on Richmond on Oct. 18. Two weeks later, on Nov. 1, the Minutemen will travel to Rhode Island. Then it's a home contest with Maine on Oct. 8 before traveling to New Hampshire on Nov. 15. UMass will close the regular season at home against Hofstra on Nov. 22.

UMass' non-conference schedule includes the season-opener at the newly lit McGuirk Stadium vs. Albany on August 30. After hosting Holy Cross in 2007, the Minutemen will now travel to Worcester to take on the Crusaders on Sept. 6. On Sept. 20, they head to Lubbock, Texas to take on FBS power and 2008 Gator Bowl winner Texas Tech. UMass closes its non-conference slate at home vs. Bryant on Oct. 25.

Thirteen of the league's 43 non-conference tilts will feature opponents from the Bowl Subdivision classification, including seven teams which participated in bowl games last season - Hofstra/Connecticut (Aug. 28), Delaware/Maryland (Aug. 30), Towson/Navy (Aug. 30), Villanova/West Virginia (Aug. 30), Richmond/Virginia (Sept. 6), Massachusetts/Texas Tech (Sept. 20) and Rhode Island/Boston College (Sept. 27). CAA Football non-conference foes also include teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Big East, the Big Ten, the Mid-American Conference and an FBS Independent. CAA Football teams have been successful against schools from the FBS ranks, logging at least two victories over the higher level foes in five of the last six seasons.
