AMHERST, Mass. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association has just released their 2007 Division 1 National Academic Team Awards. The University of Massachusetts field hockey team was one of the teams acknowledged for their excellence in the classroom. The teams recognized had a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Additionally, UMass had three student-athletes placed on the Division I National Academic Squad. Freshman Courtney Mayerick, sophomore Kylie Jelley, and junior Erin Parker were honored.
It was the first such award for Jelley and Mayerick, who each played their first season in the maroon and white in 2007. Parker, an Atlantic 10 All-Tournament team selection studying neuroscience, was also honored by the A-10 conference by being named to the All-Academic Team in 2007. In the fall semester, Parker was also chosen to speak at the Fall Academic Luncheon on behalf of the student-athletes.
