AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass field hockey team will be hosting the 7-A-Side Enhancement Clinic in Sunday, April 27, 2008. The event will be held at Garber Field on the UMass campus and is open to all high school and club teams. UMass field hockey head coach Justine Sowry will be present along with members of the UMass field hockey team. Assistant coaches Kelly Dostal, Chrissy Needham, and Kristina Edmonds will also be on hand before the tournament begins to host the enhancement clinic.

Following the clinic, there will be a tournament that will consist of eight teams from each age bracket (U14, U16, U19). Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. For each age group (U14, U16, U19) there are eight spots available. High school teams, club teams, and individuals are all welcome. If you are interested in attending, fill out the registration form and send it in along with the necessary registration fee.

This past season, the UMass field hockey had their most successful season since 2000. The Minutewomen made it to the NCAA Tournament where they fell in the first round to #4 Connecticut. Under first year head coach Justine Sowry, UMass won 14 games, the program's highest win total since 2000. The Minutewomen also won their first Atlantic 10 Championship since 2001 before defeating #17 Princeton in a NCAA play-in game. That was the club's first win over a ranked opponent since 2000. The team won eight more games than it did a season ago, the program's biggest increase over the previous year since 1995-96, all while possessing a defense that ranked at the top of the A-10 and among the best nationally.

Head Coach Justine Sowry was also named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year at the completion of the regular season and her first season at the helm. She led UMass to its most regular season wins (11) since 2000. The Minutewomen finished conference play at 6-1 to earn a share of the regular season title, their first since 2001.
