Patry, Simmons Named UMass/Dinn Bros. Fall Scholar Athletes

AMHERST, Mass. - Senior soccer standouts Vanessa Patry and Zack Simmons have been named UMass/Dinn Bros. Fall Scholar Athletes and were honored at Wednesday's Sports Luncheon. Patry and Simmons have enjoyed illustrious careers both on and off the field. For Simmons, it marks his second-consecutive season of earning the distinction of Fall Scholar Athlete.
Patry, who owns a 3.78 GPA in Biology/Neuroscience, was named to the Academic All-Conference Team this year as well as to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team.
On the field, the Delmar, N.Y. native led the Minutewomen in scoring with 13 points on five goals and three assists while starting all 18 games. She was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week after scoring both goals in UMass' 2-2 home-opening tie vs. New Hampshire. She was later named UMass/Dinn Bros. Co-Athlete of the Week after earning an assist vs. Bryant and scoring a pair vs. Holy Cross. Patry also amassed a career-high point streak of four games dating Sept. 3 to Sept. 26.
Simmons owns a 3.99 GPA as a History and Economics major. This season, he was named ESPN The Magazine's Men's Soccer National All-American of the Year, ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team, A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year, and A-10 Defensive Player of the Year.
He is also in the running for Soccer News Net National Player of the Year which concludes on Dec. 15. To vote for Simmons, please click here.
On the field, Simmons was tremendous as well with a 0.81 GAA, .824 save percentage, and seven shutouts. His playing career was highlighted by UMass' College Cup run last season in which he was stellar in leading the Minutemen to the National Semifinals. He was one of only two players who did not make the National Finals to be named to the NCAA College Cup All Tournament Team.
