Nine Minutemen Named Sports Network All-Americans

Nine UMass football players were named to The Sports Network 2007 All-American team today. Senior wide receiver JJ Moore and senior linebacker Jason Hatchell were named Second-Team All-Americans. Juniors Liam Coen and Matt Lawrence, as well as seniors Matt Austin, David Burris, Charles Walker, Courtney Robinson and Sean Smalls were all named Honorable Mention by The Sports Network.
Offensive lineman Matt Austin was also named a Second-Team All-American by the Associated Press and an All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation. Austin, a captain, helped the offensive line stay atop the A-10 for fewest sacks allowed during his career at UMass.
Hatchell earned AP Third-Team All-American and was also named All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation. Hatchell had 360 career tackles in 2007 to finish sixth all-time at UMass.
Captain JJ Moore ranks second all-time at UMass in career receptions at 185 and career receiving yards at 2,423, as well as becoming the eighth player in UMass history with 100 catches. Tailback Matt Lawrence ranked 15th in the NCAA and fourth in CAA with 121.92 yards per game.
Quarterback Liam Coen has already rewritten record books while at UMass, standing first in passing efficiency (150.14), first in completion percentage (64.5), third in completions (392), third in passing yards (5,191), fourth in passing touchdowns (36), and fifth in attempts (608).
