BURLINGTON, Ver. - UMass Field Hockey (3-3) held the New Hampshire Wildcats (3-3) scoreless for all 70 minutes of regulation, but it wasn't enough as the Minutewomen fell 1-0 in overtime on Sunday afternoon. Shauna Sellenger scored unassisted 4:55 into the extra period to win it for UNH and wrap-up the weekend at the Sheraton Catamount Classic in Burlington. Sophomore goaltender Sarah Williams (Colorado Springs, Colo.) made five saves for UMass. Margaux Shute turned away seven Minutewomen shots to earn the victory.
UMass applied the pressure in the first half, but Shute and the Wildcat defense withstood it. At halftime shots on goal were 5-0 in favor of the Minutewomen. The tide turned in the second half, as the shot on goal in the second half were 4-0 for the Wildcats.
Both goalies were tested in overtime, as Williams made a save for UMass and Shute made two stops for UNH.
UMass' leading scorer, Cher King (Christ Church, Barbados) led the Minutewomen with four shots. She also made a defensive save, but saw her four-game scoring streak snapped.
Sophomore midfielder Mary Shea (Foxboro, Mass.) added three shots for UMass, all of which were on goal.
Final shots were 14-8 in favor of UMass. Shots on goal also went UMass' way, 7-6. The Minutewomen had four penalty corner opportunities, all in the first half. New Hampshire had one penalty corner.
