* J.J. Moore's 58-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter was UMass' first since Kory Blackwell had a 67-yard runback against UConn on Nov. 16, 1996.
*Moore moved to sixth in career receiving yards with 40. He moved past Jimmy Moore (1494) and Tim Berra (1486). Moore now has 1523.
*Matt Lawrence gained 100 rushing yards for the second week in a row. He had 153 in his first start at tailback for UMass last week against Holy Cross.
*Graduate student Breyone Evans scored his touchdown at UMass and first in college since 2004 on a four-yard reception late in the first half. Evans had a rushing and receiving touchdown while playing at Syracuse three years ago.
*Jeremy Horne scored his first career touchdown on a 25-yard touchdown pass with 1:41 left in the first quarter. It was his second career catch as well.
*Ian Jorgensen had his third career TD, and first in the regular-season, as he grabbed a 15-yarder from Liam Coen in the third quarter. His previous two TDs came against Lafayette and New Hampshire in the NCAA playoffs in 2006.
*Courtney Robinson had his third career interception late in the first half, he returned the ball 20 yards.
* JC transfer punter Brett Arnold booted back-to-back punts of 58 and 66 yards in the first half. In just his second game at UMass, he equaled and then surpassed his junior college best of 58 yards set last season while at Lackawanna JC.
* Liam Coen didn't complete a pass until less than three minutes were left in the first quarter, as he hit Matt Lawrence for a gain of six yards with 2:51 left in the first.
* Charles Walker forced a fumble which was recovered by Eric Dickson on a fumbled punt return by Colgate's Cody Williams with 4:39 left in the first quarter.
* Michael Meggett had his first career sack for seven yards to end Colgate's first drive of the game.
