Minutewomen Fall To Vermont, 3-1

BURLINGTON, Ver. - The University of Massachusetts Field Hockey (3-2) team suffered their second loss of the season at the Sheraton Catamount Classic to host Vermont (5-0) by a score of 3-1 on Saturday at Moulton Winder Field. Danielle Collins scored three goals for the Catamounts to lead the way. UMass' goal was scored by Cher King (Christ Church, Barbados), her fifth of the season.
Senior goaltender Becky Letourneau (Greenfield, Mass.) made two saves for the Minutewomen, but was forced to leave the game in the second half with an injury. Sophomore Sarah Williams (Colorado Springs, Colo.) came for the final 23:02. Sophomore Kristen Heavens made seven saves for the Catamounts.
Vermont opened up the scoring late in the first half when Maegan Luce set up Collins for her first goal with 3:46 left. The same pair hooked up again for their second goal, this one coming 3:55 into the second half.
UMass got on the board with 16:52 remaining when King scored off a rebound to make it 2-1. It was King's team-leading fifth goal and 11th point of the season.
Vermont tacked on an insurance goal with 11:43 left in the game when Collins scored her third goal of the game, this time with Jennifer Angers assisting.
King led the Minutewomen in shots with four. Junior Katelyn Orlando (Manchester, Mass.) took three shots.
Total shots were 14-9 in favor of UMass. Shots on goal also went UMass' way, 8-5. The Minutewomen took three penalty corners to Vermont's one.
The Minutewomen will be back in action on Sunday when they take on the New Hampshire Wildcats (2-2) to wrap-up the weekend in Burlington. The game is slated for a 3:15 start.
