PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Three Minutewomen, Kaitlyn Carpenter, Candynce Boney and Masha Pozar, competed in the Cissy Leary Invitational this weekend in Philadelphia, Pa., an event hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. In the singles competition, both Boney and Carpenter were eliminated in the first round of the singles main draw while Pozar made it to the quarterfinal round. In the doubles, Pozar and Boney made another run for a tournament championship falling just short in the semifinal round to eventual champions Kosminskaya/Koulbitskaya (Penn).

Pozar went into this tournament as one of the top seeded singles players. After a bye in the first round she defeated Lindsay Dashiell (Yale) 6-3, 6-1 in the second round on Friday. She moved into the quarterfinal round Saturday but fell to Yulia Rivelis (Penn) 1-6, 6-1, 10-4.

Although Boney lost in the first round of the singles main draw to Sydney Murray (Columbia), 7-6(3), 6-3 on Friday, she stepped up and in the singles consolation round and made it to the quarterfinals losing to Lederhandler (Yale), the eventual champion 6-1,6-4.

Carpenter had a tough time making it out of the first round this weekend. After losing to Jessica Brouwer (Virginia Tech) 6-0, 6-2, in the singles consolation round after a bye Carpenter fell to Clermont (Temple) 6-3, 6-0.

In the doubles tournament, it was the same story. This weekend, Carpenter was paired with Sarah Hoffman of Princeton for doubles. The duo lost in the first round of the doubles main draw to Petrelli/Kim (Yale) 8-0 on Friday; and in the doubles consolation round the lost to Chis/John (Cornell) 8-4.

Boney/Pozar on the other hand had an excellent run in the main draw doubles tournament. After winning the Army Invitational doubles tournament last weekend, Pozar and Boney made it to the semifinal round of the doubles tournament falling to Kosminskaya/Koulbitskaya (Penn) the eventual Tournament champions.
