POSTGAME NOTES
UMASS 38, MAINE 7 * SEPT. 22, 2007

* UMass continues its undefeated start at 4-0. It is the first time the Minutemen are 4-0 since the 1986 season. The Minutemen head to undefeated Boston College (4-0) looking for its best start since 1975, when UMass started 8-0.

* The Minutemen won their 40th game against Maine all-time. The third-most against any opponent with only more wins coming against Rhode Island (45) and New Hampshire (41).

* UMass has now won nine of the last 10 games against Maine including six in a row.

* UMass has scored more than 35 points in the first four games of a season for the first time in history. It is also the first time they have scored more than 30 in the first four games of the season since 1931.

* Matt Lawrence had a career-high 176 rushing yards. He had his third career 100-yard rushing game, going over the 100-yard mark on his seventh carry of the game (7-109), early in the second quarter.

* Lawrence had a career-long 62-yard touchdown run on UMass' second play from scrimmage.

* Lawrence had a career-best three touchdowns, bettering his two-TD performance in the 2007 opener vs. Holy Cross. The last UMass player to rush for three touchdowns in a game was Tony Nelson last season against William & Mary (10/7/06).

* Tony Nelson had a career-high 104 rushing yards on 18 carries including a career-long 61 yard run in the fourth quarter. Nelson's previous best run total was 73 yards vs. Stony Brook in 2006. Today was the first time in his career at UMass that he eclipsed the century mark on the ground.

* J.J. Moore had seven catches to move to third in career receptions at UMass with 130. He passed Marcel Shipp, who had 126.

* Jeromy Miles had his third forced fumble of the season in the first quarter.

* Liam Coen moved to second alone in career touchdown passes with his strike to Chris Zardas in the first quarter. With 45, he passed Jeff Krohn (44).

* Chris Zardas had his first career touchdown on a 2-yard reception after Miles' forced fumble.

* Brandon Freeman forced another fumble which was recovered by Charles Walker midway through the first quarter.

* Chris Koepplin booted a 45-yard field goal with 14 seconds left in the first quarter. It was his seventh-career 40-plus yard field goal and third this season.
