AMHERST, Mass. - Two second half goals off penalty corners led the Boston University Terriers (4-2) to a 2-0 victory over the UMass Minutewomen (3-4) Wednesday night at Garber Field. After out-shooting the Terriers 6-2 in the first half and controlling play, the tide turned against UMass in the second half. Pam Spuehler and Gabby Hajjar both scored for Boston University. Becky Letourneau (Greenfield, Mass.) made five saves in goal for the Minutewomen. Amanda Smith picked up the win in net for the Terriers.

The Minutewomen controlled the game for most of the first half. While keeping the ball in the Terrier end. UMass built a 6-2 lead in shots, but couldn't score. UMass' best opportunities came late in the half. Junior Katelyn Orlando (Manchester, Mass.) found sophomore Cher King (Christ Church, Barbados) streaking up the left side. She then slid a pass over to junior Erin Parker (South Deerfield, Mass.) who sent a shot wide. Just a short time later, King beat a pair of defenders into the circle on the ride side and sent a blast that beat Smith, but missed left.

Play shifted the way of the Terriers in the second half. The game remained scoreless until with 15:57 left, when Spuehler scored off the rebound of a penalty corner shot, to make it 1-0. BU struck again on a penalty corner just 2:33 later, when Holly Wiles found Hajjar on the doorstep to make it 2-0. Shots were 10-1 in favor of BU in the second half.

King led the Minutewomen with three shots. Parker had two and freshmen Jaime Bourazeris (New Hyde Park, NY) and Makaela Potts (Raby, Australia) added one apiece.

Final shots went the way of the Terriers, 12-7. BU had seven penalty corners to UMass' four.

UMass will be back in action Sunday when they travel to Loudonville, NY to take on Siena in a 1 p.m. contest.
