Eight Minutemen Named To Don Hansen All-America Team

NORTH AURORA, Ill. - Eight members of the National Finalist UMass football team have been named to the Don Hansen's Football Gazette NCAA Division 1 FCS All-America Team. James Ihedigbo, Steve Baylark, Jason Hatchell, Alex Miller, Matt Austin, Chris Koepplin, Brad Anderson, and Tracy Belton were all honored for their outstanding seasons.

Linebacker James Ihedigbo was named to the first team defense. He finished the season with 72 tackles, 5 sacks and 3 interceptions.

Named to the second team offense was running back Steve Baylark. He finished his career as one of only three in Division I history to record four consecutive 1,000 yard seasons. He enjoyed his best season as a senior, finishing with 1,960 yards on 338 carries. Also, linebacker Jason Hatchell was named to the second team defense. He led the team with 134 tackles, including a career-high 18 at New Hampshire on November 4.

Center Alex Miller was named to the third team offense. His season was highlighted by being named UMass Athlete of the Week for his effort against Northeastern. Players named as honorable mention were offensive tackle Matt Austin, kicker Chris Koepplin, linebacker Brad Anderson, and cornerback Tracy Belton.

With a strong incoming class, the Minutemen look to make noise in 2007. UMass opens up the 2007 season at home hosting Holy Cross on September 1.
