Austin, Hatchell Named Walter Camp All-Americans For 2007

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - UMass senior captains Matt Austin and Jason Hatchell have been named to the 2007 Walter Camp All-American Team. The teammates helped the Minutemen to the CAA Championship and NCAA Quarterfinals. Austin started all 13 games and was a key to the offensive line. Hatchell had his third season with more than 100 tackles as he finished among the all-time greats in tackles at UMass.
Austin had had a decorated career at UMass. As a senior he has already been named to the CAA First-Team and New England Writers All-Star Team. He started 43 career games including the final 18 in a row, playing four different positions on the offensive line. UMass averaged 401 yards of total offense in 2007 as Matt Lawrence had 10 games with more than 100 yards rushing.
A Buck Buchanan Award Finalist, Hatchell has also been named a CAA First-Teammer and a New England Writers All-Star in 2007. He racked up his third season with 100-plus tackles with 115 in 2007. He led UMass in tackles in 22 of the last 39 games. He finished his career with 360 tackles, sixth all-time at UMass. His 206 assisted tackles is third all-time at UMass. He was ninth in the CAA in tackles per game in 2007 with 8.77 along with 7.0 TFLs, eight passes defended, two fumble recoveries and first two career interceptions.
