NASHVILLE, Tenn. - UMass alum Jeremy Cain has been signed by the Tennessee Titans to serve as a long snapper on Tuesday. Cain had been in preseason camp with the Philadelphia Eagles and has played in the NFL with the Chicago Bears. He was an All-American linebacker at UMass, graduating in 2003.
The Titans had Cain on their practice squad for three days in late October, but he was let go on Oct. 28, only to be brought back and added to the 53-man roster on Oct. 30.
He will replace Ken Amato, who suffered a torn ACL in his right knee in the fourth quarter of the 13-9 victory over the Oakland Raiders on Oct. 28 and was lost for the season.
Cain, who spent two seasons with the Chicago Bears and was in camp with the Philadelphia Eagles, beat out Adam Treu, Joe Masese, Kendall Gammon and Derek Rackley on Tuesday to claim the job for the Titans.
Cain, who played college football at Massachusetts, also is a linebacker and can play fullback as well. Cain was a second team All-American in 2002 and 2003 also earning first-team All-Atlantic in 2003.
