AMHERST, Mass. - UMass field hockey player Jaime Bourazeris (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) was named Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday for her efforts last week. The freshman back scored two goals last week, including the game-winner on Sunday versus La Salle. She also helped lead a defense that posted 140 shutout minutes in the Minutewomen's two victories.

Bourazeris' stellar week began with Friday's 4-0 win over West Chester in the A-10 opener. She netted her second goal of the season on a blast from the top of the circle off a penalty corner. Kara Murphy (Dedham, Mass.) and Nicole Phelan (North Andover, Mass.) assisted on the play. In Sunday's 2-0 win over La Salle, Jaime broke the scoreless with another goal coming off a penalty corner. This time it was Murphy and Erin Parker (South Deerfield, Mass.) assisting. She recorded seven shots total in the two victories.

For the season Bourazeris has three goals, one assist, seven points, and 18 shots. She is tied for second on the team in both goals and points.

Her biggest contributions however, have been on the defensive side. Jaime has been one of the leaders of a defense that has posted a conference-high five shutouts. UMass' defense has also allowed the fewest shots (97) and shots per game (7.46) in the A-10. They rank seventh in the country in shutouts per game (0.38) and 12th in goals against average (1.14). As the lone freshman in the backfield, she has quickly established herself, playing every minute so far this season. Jaime is joined on UMass' back-line by seniors Phelan, Erin O'Brien (Annandale, Va.), and Kristina DoRosario (Oakville, Ontario).

She is the second UMass player to win a A-10 weekly award this season. Cher King (Christ Church, Barbados) was name Co-Player of the Week on September 3.

The Minutewomen are 7-6 overall in 2007. Their 2-0 A-10 record is tied with Richmond for first place. Conference play continues this week as UMass plays Friday at Temple at 3 p.m. and Sunday at St. Joseph's at noon.
