UMass Hands Fordham First Atlantic 10 Loss, 1-0

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team got back on track with a 1-0 win over Fordham at rainy Rudd Field on Friday afternoon. Cristina Adams scored the game-winning goal at 27:00, her second goal in as many games. She has now had a part in the last three UMass goals, scoring two and assisting on the other. The Minutewomen (8-3-1, 3-3 Atlantic 10) are back in action on Sunday as they host the La Salle Explorers at 1 p.m.
UMass had a golden opportunity 2:44 into the game, as Vanessa Patry had a clear shot at the net, but Fordham goalkeeper Jen Byer came out strong to make the save.
The Minutewomen took the lead at 27:00 when Cristina Adams beat Byers to the far left post, assisted by Britt Canfield. UMass put on good pressure, as Canfield headed the ball to Adams, who put home her third goal of the season.
Fordham controlled play in the second half, with numerous opportunities in the UMass defensive zone.
At 62:56, UMass goalkpeer Kristin Walker collided with a Fordham player and had to leave the game with an injury. Sophomore Lauren Lucky came in the rest of the way.
The Rams had a golden opportunity in the 82nd minute. Brittany Hogan had a clear shot to the goal, but the UMass defense came up strong to knock the ball away and force a corner kick.
Fordham finished ahead in shots, 17-14, while they had 13 corner kicks to UMass' three. Walker made three saves in goal, picking up the victory. Lucky made four to seal the win. Byer played tremendously well for the Rams, making ten saves.
The Minutewomen are back home on Sunday as they host the La Salle Explorers at 1 p.m. Admission is free to all. Fans who can't make it can watch live through UMass All-Access or follow the action with Gametracker.
