• With the win, UMass is now 57-56-11 in season openers. That mark includes wins in seven of the last eight including five in a row.

• Steve Baylark scored his 31st career touchdown with the first score of the 2006 season for UMass with a 6-yard reception. On the all-time career TDs list, Baylark ranks sixth. • James Ihedigbo blocked Colgate kicker Jacob Stein's 42-yard field goal attempt in the third quarter. That drive began on the UMass 8-yard line after a Liam Coen interception, but UMass' defense forced the Raiders back to the UMass 19 after a fumble from center and a sack by David Burris.

• Brian Ellis had his first career interception in the third quarter.

• In the first quarter, UMass outgained Colgate, 125-21, in total yards. The Minutemen had eight first downs while holding the Raiders without one.

• A pair of Rutgers transfers FB E.J. Barthel and TE Brad Listorti drew starts for the Minutemen in their first seasons with UMass.
