PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas - Greetings UMass fans from the beautiful Bahama Islands! The Minutemen are currently on the fourth day of their preseason training trip.
The men's basketball team is staying at the spectacular Atlantis Resort where they have seen many wondrous sights such as rare aquatic species, gorgeous pools and beaches, and today's snorkeling trip just off Paradise Island.
Sunday has been an off day for UMass after playing two teams on Friday and Saturday nights. As many of you have no doubt read already, the first two games were very successful for the team. Being able to play and practice this early in the season has been a great benefit prior to the starting the season.
The team is in great spirits and is having a wonderful time playing basketball and bonding together. Many thanks to all of those who helped make this trip possible!
For the first couple of days here, the team mainly hung out around the resort which is a 14-acre compound of beaches, pools, aquariums, and some of the best shopping in the world.
Aside from enjoying all the amenities the Atlantis has to offer, the team also focused on basketball issues with daily meetings to discuss goals for the season and how they could work together to achieve them.
On Sunday, the team's off day, the Minutemen took to the open waters just off Paradise Island where they had a once-in-a-lifetime snorkeling adventure. After loading up on a boat reserved just for the team, UMass cruised out a couple of miles from the mainland, donned their gear and hopped into the water. For over an hour, the team swam and explored the exotic reefs and observed the colorful fish that surround this tropical locale.
Monday is back to business for the team as they play again at 7 p.m. The team wishes to thank all of those who have listened over the internet and hope they have enjoyed hearing about the early start to the season. Keep listening and supporting your Minutemen!
Make sure to check back later this week for chats with players as they discuss what the trip has meant to them and share some of the memories they have made.
