PRINCETON, Mass. - The Minutemen and the Minutewomen, led by siblings Rush and Eliza Hawkins, both placed first overall at the Brown Carnival Slalom on Saturday, January 27 at Wachusset Mountain. Junior Rush Hawkins (Shelburne, Mass.) placed first overall individually with a time of 1:21.56, and was closely followed by sophomore Jason Small (Shelburne Falls, Mass.), who finished second overall in 1:22.21. Junior Eliza Hawkins (Shelburne, Mass.) finished third overall in 1:30.64, less than a half second out of first place, to lead the Minutewomen.

Both teams had three skiers in the individual top ten. Behind Hawkins and Small, senior Pat Bachant (Hubbardston, Mass.) finished eighth for the men in 1.26.41.

For the women, senior Lisbet Rauh (Princeton, Mass.) had a career best fifth place finish overall in 1:32.95. She was joined in the top ten by senior Caitlin Doughty (Quincy, Mass.) who finished eighth in 1:33.06.

"We are still the only team in the league with both men and women in the top three, and a Minuteman (Rush or Jason) has won each event this season," said Coach Justin Rouleau.

The UMass Ski team returns to action this weekend on Saturday, February 4 for the Brown Carnival Giant Slalom on Loon Mountain.
