Baylark Added To Walter Payton Award Watch List

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Massachusetts running back Steve Baylark, who leads the Atlantic 10 in rushing, has been named to the Walter Payton Watch List it was announced on Wednesday. Baylark, who was on the Watch List last season, is one of two UMass players on the lists. Senior safety James Ihedigbo is also on the list for the Buchanan Award.

Baylark leads the A-10 with 1,044 yards and eight touchdowns and has topped the 100-yard mark in five of the Massachusetts' eight contests. The senior from Apopka, FL, rushed for157 yards in the third-ranked Minutemen's 7-0 win at Northeastern on Saturday en route to becoming just the third player in I-AA history to gain 1,000 yards in four different seasons, joining New Hampshire's Jerry Azumah (1995-98) and Georgia Southern's Adrian Peterson (1998-01). One of 16 candidates for the Walter Payton Award, presented by The Sports Network to the most outstanding player in I-AA, Baylark is joined on the Walter Payton "Watch List" by New Hampshire teammates David Ball and Ricky Santos, who were named to the list on August 23.
