MANCHESTER, N.H. - Manchester Wolves managing partner Steve Schubert was named the arenafootball2 Executive of the Year on Friday night at the league's annual awards banquet held this year in Bossier City, LA, the site of the 2005 ArenaCup. The franchise also received recognition for its outstanding community relations program (2nd overall), dance team (3rd overall) and team mascot ("Blitz" - 3rd overall).
Schubert, who has lived in and around the Manchester area for nearly 50 years, was one of the catalysts in bringing Arena Football to the area in November of 2003. With the help of his deep local personal and professional roots, the Wolves have flourished under Schubert's influence. In 2005, the organization excelled on and off the football field, ranking third in the league in attendance (7,348 fans per game) and winning the East Division title with a regular season record of 12-4.
Schubert, also a Senior Vice President for UBS, a wealth management firm, is a former local football star that made it to the big time, playing six years in the NFL as a wide receiver for the Patriots and Chicago Bears. After starring at Manchester Central High, Schubert went on to earn his degree at the University of Massachusetts. While at UMass, Schubert played a starring role on the Minutemen football team, earning All-America honors for his stellar senior season of 1972. Schubert's contributions to the local community include involvement on the boards of numerous charitable organizations. He has hosted the Panteli-Kotrotsios Golf Tournament for 29 years, and most recently was the Honorary Chairman for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's 4th Annual Granite Gala. He and his wife Sandy reside in Candia. The couple has three children (Stacie, Stephanie, Scott) and three grandchildren (Cailey, Keira, Grace).
"Steve's honor as Executive of the Year is further proof of why our franchise is one of the premier organizations in Arena Football," Wolves General Manager Angelo Mazzella said. "I was also especially pleased to learn that our community relations program, dance team and team mascot "Blitz" were recognized as well. Our entire support staff does a tremendous job and should be commended for their hard work and dedication."
