Justin Rouleau Named UMass Ski Coach

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts Director of Athletics John McCutcheon announced Monday the hiring of Justin Rouleau as UMass' head ski coach. Rouleau, who received his B.A. from Massachusetts in 1998 as well as his secondary teaching certificate, comes back to his alma mater after spending the 2004-05 season at Harvard University.
The Crimson enjoyed much success under Rouleau, having achieved their highest results in 70 years. Rouleau recruited the Massachusetts giant slalom champion to Harvard and was a runner-up in the EISA Coach of the Year award.
Prior to his time at Harvard, Rouleau was a visiting English professor at Tomsk Polytechnic in Siberia, Russia in 2003. He also spent time at Mount Mansfield Winter Academy in Stowe, Vt. From 1998-2000. Rouleau coached secondary-school-aged students in modern alpine ski-racing, while also teaching French and English.
Directly after graduating from Massachusetts, Rouleau taught in the Greenfield Public Schools from 1998-2000, teaching English in grades nine-12.
He served as a coach at UMass while still competing as an undergrad, helping the Minutemen to fourth and fifth place finishes in the NCAS standings. Individually, he had consistent top-10 finishes in the league and top-25 finishes at the National Championships.
