AMHERST, Mass. - Four athletic publications produced by the University of Massachusetts Media Relations Department have earned national recognition in the annual College Sports Information Directors Of America (CoSIDA) contest.

The 2004 Football Media Guide was ranked third nationally among 27 I-AA entries, while the 2004-05 Men's Basketball Media Guide brought home top district honors.

The 2004-05 Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Media Guide ranked fifth nationally among 25 entries and the 2005 Men's Lacrosse Media Guide was ranked 10th among all NCAA Division I entries.

The UMass Media Relations Department prepares media guides to aid in the promotion of the school's 23 NCAA Intercollegiate sports. The publications contain biographical information on UMass student-athletes and coaches; historical information on each program; and university sections highlighting the school, the region and the athletics department.

Each year CoSIDA holds the contest judging media guides, game programs and special publications. Entries are submitted to contest coordinators and are then judged by fellow sports information directors. UMass is part of the CoSIDA District I which consists of schools in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

Fans may order media guides from the 2004-05 year by calling the Media Relations Office at 413-545-2439 or by going to www.UMassAthletics.com and clicking on the `Publications' link.
