Kristen Bakanowski Named A-10 Rookie of the Week

AMHERST, Mass. - For the third time in her freshman season, Kristen Bakanowski has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Track & Field Rookie of the Week following her performance in the pole vault at the UConn Select Invitational last Saturday (4/23).
Bakanowski, a native of Northboro, Mass., qualified for the ECAC Championship Meet with her height of 12-feet even - the second-best mark in UMass history.
Earlier this year, Bakanowski tied the indoor track and field record in the event at 12-feet even as well en route to winning the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship.
Along with her A-10 honors, the 5-foot-2 vaulter earned the ECAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week following her performances at Boston University and Rhode Island in January. During the indoor season, she recorded five first-place finishes and two second-place finishes in eight overall competitions.
