AMHERST, Mass. - The New Balance SoccerFest will kick off with the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team facing the Dartmouth Big Green on Friday, April 29 at Rudd Field. The game, dubbed the Soccer Showdown, is part of the two-day SoccerFest which also features an all-ages tournament and the New Balance Keep Fit Challenge.
"Anytime you play an NCAA Tournament team, it is a great challenge and a great experience for the players," said head coach Sam Koch. "We are excited about playing the Ivy League Champions and are really looking forward to the game."
The men's soccer match will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Rudd Field. Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for children, high school students, and college students. Admission is free with a UMass I.D. The game will also feature a half time "Trunk Kick" Win A Subaru Contest and a post-game autograph session with the UMass men's team.
The tournament and Keep Fit Challenge will run all day on Saturday, April 30.
"The Sports Management group has really done a great job promoting the SoccerFest and have made it a really fun event. They have put in a lot of work and we hope the surrounding communities are able to come out, enjoy a weekend of soccer and see what will be a great game on Friday night," said Koch.
For more information and registration for Saturday's events, contact the Isenberg School of Management at 413-545-0454 or visit www.soccerfest.org.
In its third year, the SoccerFest is a non-profit event which has evolved into a two-day community holiday, solely supported by corporate sponsorship and player registration fees. Proceeds of the event go toward the Erik Kjeldsen Scholarship Fund, named after former UMASS Sport Management professor Dr. Erik Kjeldsen. Each year the Sport Management department awards scholarships to two of its students who exemplify academic excellence and work ethic.
Realizing the importance of sports for local youth, the New Balance SoccerFest staff aims to build up on the relationship between the Pioneer Valley community and the UMASS Men and Women Soccer teams.
