Tennis Handles Holy Cross On Senior Day

AMHERST, Mass. - Senior captain Sasha Edelstein (Haifa, Israel) went out on a winning note, winning both of her matches, as the Minutewomen (15-6) rolled to a 6-1 victory over Holy Cross (6-13). Edelstein, the lone senior, only lost one set in two matches in leading the team to the win.
Edelstein took her match at No. 3 singles by scores of 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Michele Spiess (Stuttgart, Germany) continued her winning ways with a sweep of her opponent in the No. 1 slot. Freshman Masha Pozar (Ljublijana, Slovenia) easily got by her opponent at No. 2, winning 6-1, 6-1. Juniors Susan Johnson (Arnold, Md.) and Jana Bartoloni (Quincy, Mass.) also won their singles matches at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
In doubles competition, Spiess and Pozar bested their opponent at No. 1, 8-1. Edelstein and Bartoloni won 8-0 at No. 2, while junior Lesley Fisher (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and freshman Kristin DiPiero (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) teamed up at No. 3 doubles, winning 8-1.
The Minutewomen, winners of eight-straight matches, take their perfect 4-0 conference record to the Atlantic 10 Championships this weekend. Play begins on Friday, April 22 and continues through Sunday. The tournament is being held in College Park, Md.
