Granting Opportunities and Attaining Excellence:
A never-wavering standard that challenges us daily. Student-athletes choose the University of Massachusetts Amherst because they want to attain excellence in the classroom, in competition and in the community. It is our challenge to grant them the opportunity to fulfill their dreams.
The University of Massachusetts Athletic Association is dedicated to building critical private support. The Athletic Association works with friends, alumni and advocates of the University who participate in a variety of support activities to ensure continual development and improvement of all UMass varsity sport programs. Your contributions to the Athletic Department provide the scholarship support that allows many student-athletes to pursue their dreams, the best coaches to hone their skills, and state-of-the-art facilities for practice and competition.
Your gift to the Athletic Department gives you membership in the UMAA. The UMAA is a community of loyal UMass supporters dedicated to maintaining the University's proud heritage. As a supporter and a member of the UMAA there are benefits you can receive. Seven levels of giving offer a variety of opportunities to not only support UMass Athletics, but also, to experience and enjoy the leadership and success of the Minutemen.
The rich tradition of UMass has been woven patiently over the years by people of vision and accomplishment, each layer shared and enjoyed by succeeding generations. Now is the time to ensure that the substance of that tradition is sustained and nourished. We encourage you to make a commitment to the Athletic Department and support the traditions and ideals that help grant opportunities for our student-athletes to attain excellence. Thank you for considering the future of UMass athletics.
Ways to Give
Direct Gifts: Gifts can be made in the form of cash, check or credit card. Gifts can be made annually or periodically through the year.
Matching Gifts: UMass qualifies for most charitable matching gift programs. If your company participates in such programs, you will receive UMAA credit for the matching gift. All donors whose employers participate in a matching gift program should obtain the matching gift forms through there benefits office, complete them and mail them in with their own donation.
Appreciated Securities: Gifts of appreciated stock or bonds are another way to support UMass student-athletes and receive a greater tax benefit than you would from an equivalent of cash.

The IRS requires that the value of benefits be subtracted from any charitable contribution. To maintain the full amount of your annual UMAA contribution as a deduction, you must indicate - when you make your pledge or contribution - that you do not wish to receive any benefits including Priority Points. If you choose to enjoy UMAA benefits (i.e., priority points), remember that the maximum portion of your total annual UMAA gift, for IRS purposes, is 80%. It may be less, based on your level of giving and associated benefits. Your latest University Advancement acknowledgement(s) will show both the face amount of your UMAA contribution and your appropriate IRS deduction.
Major gifts associated with endowment or capital projects do not count towards annual UMAA benefits and thus qualify as a 100% deduction for tax purposes.
The People You Support
Two of the many reasons why supporting our student-athletes is a worthy investment.
Peter Trovato
Senior Hockey
Embodying everything you could envision when you classify someone as a student-athlete, Peter Trovato has performed to the highest standard on the ice and in the classroom. The teams "ironman" (one missed game in four years) has the highest GPA on the hockey team while pursuing a double major in political science and journalism all while being enrolled in the University's highly regarded Commonwealth College.
But those accomplishments just begin to define his tenure at UMass. Trovato's involvement at the community level has truly been incredible as he has been named a finalist for the Hockey Humanitarian Award that recognizes hockey's "finest citizen". His commitment to his local community includes participation with many of the areas most important entities including, the Violence Prevention and White Ribbon Campaign, Big Brother, Big Sisters of Hampshire County, the Rodman Ride for Kids event, and the Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy Fund, which he founded to "honor the sacrifice of Massachusetts Soldiers in the War on Terrorism".
Adrianne Monaco
Senior Field Hockey
Adrianne Monaco was a major offensive cog for the Minutewomen field hockey team that was the Atlantic 10 runner-up for both the regular season and conference tournament this past season. She was second on the team in goals with five and dished out an assist. For her superior play, Monaco was named to both the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team as well as the Atlantic 10 All-Tournament Team.
In the classroom, Monaco has been equally as stellar earning a 3.89 grade point average while majoring in psychology. Through the years she has received numerous academic awards including being named to the Field Hockey Coach's Association Academic All-American Team and the UMass Athletic Council Honor Roll for earning the highest GPA on the field hockey team throughout her collegiate career. She also has been a member of the A-10 Academic All-Conference Team for the past three seasons.
