In response to many of the questions that have come forward about the McGuirk Stadium projects such as the installation of lights and a new artificial playing surface, UMass Athletic Director John McCutcheon had the following to say:
"As a follow up to my open letter we received many inquiries about the status of the McGuirk Stadium renovation. For those who are not aware, we are trying to install a new artificial field surface, add permanent lighting and make improvements to the press box, locker rooms and surrounding area. Funding for these initiatives will need to come primarily from external support. In that regard we have been working with the Friends of Football support group to raise money for this project. As soon as we raise enough to fund each component we intend to put each piece in place and not delay any one improvement. Our priority would be to do the field as soon as possible, then the lights and finally the other improvements. Currently we have secured about half of what will be needed to fund the field replacement. This remains a priority project for our advancement efforts and anyone interested in making a contribution should contact our Associate Athletic Director for Advancement, Tim Kenney at 413-545-4284."
