AMHERST, Mass. - Three UMass football players were named to the CollegeSportsReport.com Division I-AA All-Star team for 2005. Senior safety Shannon James was named to the First Team while junior punter Christian Koegel and junior center Alex Miller were named to the Second Team.
James was also named CollegeSportsReport.com's A-10 Peformer of the Year. Here's the excerpt about James: "Opposing offenses steered clear of defensive back Shannon James of Massachusetts, but that didn't mean the Minuteman stayed out of the action. James registered 30 solo tackles, four interceptions and scored a pair of touchdowns on the year."
James has been named First Team All-American by six other outlets this season in addition to being an Atlantic 10 First Team selection.
Koegel was named a First Team All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation and a Third Team All-American by The Sports Network.
This is Miller's first national honor for the year, he was the Atlantic 10's First Team center.
