AMHERST, Mass. - Safety Shannon James picked up four more All-America honors, as he was one of four Atlantic 10 Conference players named to the American Football Coaches Association All-America team and one of five to the Associated Press team. He was also named to The Sporting News and Sports Xchange teams.
James, a Stratford, Conn., native, is a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award as the top defensive player in Division I-AA. He was the A-10 defensive player of the year in 2004 as well as an All-America by seven different organizations after leading the nation in interceptions with eight.
James, who started every game of his 47-game career, has been named to The Sporting News and Walter Camp All-America teams, as well as All-New England and first-team All-Atlantic 10.
James is the all-time leader in interceptions at UMass and his 20 career picks are the most of any active player in Division I.
The other A-10 players named to the AFCA All-America team are New Hampshire junior wide receiver David Hall, Hofstra senior offensive lineman Willie Colon and Villanova senior linebacker Brian Hulea.
Ball was also named to the AP first team, along with tight end teammate Jonathan Williams, James Madison offensive lineman Matt McGerko and JMU defensive back Tony LeZotte.
