Anderson & Bawden Named Fall Scholar-Athletes At UMass

AMHERST, Mass. - Red-shirt junior football player Brad Anderson and senior field hockey player Jaime Bawden were named UMass' Fall Scholar-Athletes. The awards were presented at the weekly sports luncheon at the Campus Center.
Anderson, a hospitality and tourism management major from Ijamsville, Md., has been a starting linebacker for the last two seasons. He was second on the team with 56 tackles this year and had a career-high 11 tackles this season against both New Hampshire and Army. Anderson has also been named to the Atlantic-10's All-Academic team. He has a 3.3 grade point average.
Bawden, a biology major from Penticton, B.C., has been a four-year starter for the field hockey team. She was named first team All-Atlantic 10 this season as was the Student-Athlete of the Year in the Atlantic 10 in her sport. She also earned a spot on the A-10 All-Tournament team this past November. This year she scored four goals and had three assists. Bawden finished her UMass career with 17 goals and five assists. She has a 3.7 grade point average.
Anderson was presented for the award by his position coach, Matt Dawson, and Hospitality and Tourism Management professor William Foley. Bawden was presented by her coach, Patty Shea, and biology professors Brian and Karen O'Connor.
The UMass Athletic Department selects a Scholar-Athlete in the fall, winter, and spring seasons.
