Jason Yellin Named Assistant A.D./Media Relations

AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts Athletic Director John McCutcheon announced today that Jason Yellin has been named the Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations. Yellin comes to UMass after spending the past six years at the University of Maryland, serving most recently as the Associate Media Relations Director. "We are extremely pleased that Jason Yellin is joining our administrative team," said McCutcheon. "He brings a high level of professionalism and enthusiasm to the position that will be a huge asset to the department." At Maryland, Yellin served as the Associate Media Relations Director. During his time, he worked with the Terrapins' 27-sport program, including the nationally-ranked football, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's lacrosse and soccer programs. Yellin has experience at many major NCAA events including the 2001 and 2002 Final Fours, the 2002 FedEx Orange Bowl, the 2002 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and the 2004 Toyota Gator Bowl. Yellin served as Maryland's Publications Coordinator and was honored with more than 60 CoSIDA Awards for "Excellence In Publications" including 10 for "Best In The Nation." He has also handled all media operations for NCAA Lacrosse and Soccer the past six years and oversaw the entire media operation of the 1999 and 2000 NCAA men's lacrosse championship. Prior to his time in College Park, Yellin spent two years at ESPN. He was involved with ESPN.com Internet Production and was the Team Pages editor. While in Bristol, Yellin reported on national events including the NBA All-Star Game, NFL Draft, NHL playoffs, Major League Baseball's Jackie Robinson 50th Anniversary Celebration and the NBA Draft. He wrote and edited hundreds of stories about major and minor professional sports and college sports. Before ESPN, Yellin worked for eight years at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, N.Y. He was an Assistant Media Relations Director, Director of Athletic Publications and Marketing Assistant. Yellin has also worked for the Long Island Surf and Jersey Turnpikes, professional basketball teams in the United States Basketball League. He also spent three years working with New York Jets Confidential, the weekly publication of the NFL team. Yellin graduated from Stony Brook in 1996. His wife, Jennifer, is also a Stony Brook grad where she was a collegiate swimmer. The couple has a daughter, Hailey, 2.
