Women's Tennis Falls To Dartmouth, 7-0

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's tennis team (4-3, 1-0 A-10) fell at Dartmouth yesterday afternoon, 6-1. The only winners for the Minutewomen were junior Stephanie Price (Columbia, Mo.) and sophomore Dorothy Iwanowicz (Hilton Head, S.C.) at the #1 doubles spot, by a score of 8-4.

After the win in #1 doubles, Massachusetts could not take one for the remainder of the contest. Co-captains junior Sasha Edelstein (Haifa, Israel) and senior Susan Hyams (Cincinnati, Ohio) fell at #2 doubles, 8-2, while the #3 doubles team of freshman Christine Liehr (Stuttgart, Germany) and Jana Bartoloni (Charlestown, Mass.) lost 8-6, as Dartmouth took the available doubles point.

Dartmouth then swept the singles matches to take the victory. At the #1 spot, Price lost 6-1, 6-0. Liehr then fell 6-2, 6-3 at #2 and Edelstein dropped the #3 match, 6-4, 6-0. At the #4 spot, Iwanowicz fell 6-3, 6-2, Bartoloni lost at #5, 6-3, 6-2, and Hyams fell, 6-4, 6-4 at the sixth slot.

The Minutewomen will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 27, as they travel to West Point, N.Y., for begin a three-match weekend. They take on Columbia on Friday at 6:00 p.m., Army at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, and end with an 8:30 a.m. match with A-10 foe St. Bonaventure on Sunday.
