AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts sophomore forward Rashaun Freeman (Schenectady, N.Y.) was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for his performance in three games this past week, his fifth award of the season.
Freeman posted a pair of double-doubles (he now has seven on the year) including a team-high 16-point, 13-rebound performance at Duquesne and a team-high 17-point, 12-rebound showing at No. 3 Saint Joseph's. In yesterday's 66-65 win over Temple, Freeman posted 16 points and three rebounds on five-of-seven shooting.
He also converted 19-of-33 attempts (.576) from the field this past week and an 11-for-16 clip (.688) from the free throw line. Freeman's five Rookie of the Week awards match the five earned by La Salle's Gary Neal last season. For the year he leads the team with 15.3 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game. Freeman also ranks third in the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage (.532) having canned 100 out of 188 shots.
