Amherst, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts won its eighth Atlantic 10 women's crew title in as many years this rainy afternoon on the Cooper River in Collingswood, N.J.

"It's been a slow start to the year, with the river flooding early on, but today I thought we really gave a good effort," said UMass coach Jim Dietz, who was named A-10 Coach of the Year for the fifth time in eight years in voting conducted by the league's head coaches. "I was very pleased with our performance. We are again the class of the A-10."

The Minutewomen won four of nine races in posting 45 total points. George Washington and Rhode Island tied for second with 35 points. The second-place finish is the second in a row for the Rams at the Atlantic 10 Championship. As for the Colonials, it marks the seventh time in eight years that they have finished second at the Atlantic 10 Championship. Saint Joseph's was fourth with 28 points and Dayton finished fifth with 19 points. The Flyers were followed by Fordham (17 points), La Salle (seven points), Temple (six points), and Duquesne (three points).

UMass won gold in the quad (7:55.1), lightweight eight (7:39.0), second varsity eight (7:23.6), and varsity eight (7:08.9) en route to the team title. It marked the seventh time in eight championship events that the Minutewomen the varsity eight title.

George Washington won three events - novice eight-B (8:01.0), novice eight-A (7:28.0), and varsity four (8:23.4). La Salle was victorious in the novice four (8:51.8) and Rhode Island captured the lightweight four (8:13.4).

The Minutewomen return to the water May 3 at Syracuse in a meet that also includes Villanova.

Final Team Scoring: 1. Massachusetts 45; 2. George Washington 35 and Rhode Island 35; 4. Saint Joseph's 28; 5. Dayton 19; 6. Fordham 17; 7. La Salle 7; 8. Temple 6; 9. Duquesne 3.
