Cain & McKenzie Named All-Americans

AMHERST, Mass. - Two members of the University of Massachusetts football team have been named 2003 All Americans by The Sports Network. Senior linebacker Jeremy Cain (Tamarac, Fla.) and senior strong safety Anton McKenzie (Medford, N.Y.) were both selected to the third team.

Cain, who was also a first team All-Atlantic 10 and All-New England selection, ended the year ranked second on the team with 107 tackles, including 73 solo stops, while starting all 13 games for the Minutemen. He ranked second on the squad in tackles for loss (14), quarterback hurries (12) and sacks (four), while also totaling three pass break ups, three forced fumbles, one interception and one blocked kick. For his career Cain totaled 361 tackles, a figure that ranks him fifth in school history, and 250 solo stops, to rank fourth all-time.

McKenzie, who was also a first team All-Atlantic 10 and All-New England selection, ended the year ranked third on the team with 106 total tackles, including 79 solo stops. He also had 11 tackles for loss, five pass break ups, four sacks, three quarterback hurries, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble, while starting all 12 games he played in for the Minutemen. For his career, McKenzie totaled 320 tackles, which ranks him ninth in school history, while his 234 solo stops place him seventh all-time.

The Minutemen finished the 2003 season with an overall record of 10-3, and advanced to the NCAA Division I-AA Playoffs for the sixth time in school history. UMass also won a share of the Atlantic 10 Conference title with an 8 1 mark in league games, good the for the 19th conference championship in school history.
