Freeman Named A-10 Rookie Of Week

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts sophomore forward Rashaun Freeman (Schenectady, N.Y.) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week in men's basketball, for games from Nov. 14-22. Freeman averaged 14.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest in two games last week, as the Minutemen posted a 1-1 record.
In the season-opening 80-58 victory over Saint Francis (N.Y.) on Nov. 18, Freeman had 11 points and 14 rebounds in the first game of his collegiate career. He became the first Minuteman to record a double-double in his college debut since John Murphy had 16 points and 14 rebounds against West Virginia on Dec. 2, 1972. Then, in the 90-50 loss at Texas Tech on Nov. 21, Freeman came back with a career-high 17 points on eight of 13 shooting. Overall for the week, he hit 11 of 21 field goal attempts, good for 52.4 percent.
The Minutemen return to action on Monday, Nov. 24, when they play host to Hartford in a 7:00 p.m. game at the Mullins Center.
