Basketball To Hold Open Scrimmage

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts men's basketball team will hold an open scrimmage this Saturday, November 1, at Curry Hicks Cage on the UMass campus. The scrimmage, which is free and open to the general public, is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.

This Saturday's event will be the first chance for fans to see the new players on the UMass roster, including freshman guard Art Bowers (Wilmington, Del.), junior guard Chris Chadwick (Union, N.J.), sophomore forward Rashaun Freeman (Schenectady, N.Y.), freshman forward Stephane Lasme (Libreville, Gabon) and freshman guard Maurice Maxwell (Philadelphia, Pa.).

The Minutemen will kick off the 2003-2004 season with an exhibition game against the Harlem Globetrotters at the Springfield Civic Center on November 9. UMass will play a second exhibition game on November 13 at the Mullins Center against the Playaz, before opening the regular season at home against St. Francis (N.Y.) in the first round of the Preseason NIT on November 18.
