AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts senior Sarah Pollmann (Hamm, Germany) has been named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) 2002 All-America squad. Pollmann earned second team All-America honors for the second consecutive season.
A first team CRCA Mid-Atlantic Region honor squad member, Pollmann led the UMass Varsity 8 to victories at the 2002 A-10 Championships, and the Dad Vail and Avaya Regattas. She also helped the Minutewomen to their seventh straight Atlantic 10 team title.
The All-America award is designed to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains during the current season. The selection criteria include meeting eligibility rules as defined by the athlete's institution, participating in at least 75% of the season's races in the varsity boat, and the student-athletes's head coach must be a member in good standing of the CRCA.
The All-America first and second teams were selected by the regional chairpersons following the NCAA Championships from the rowers who had received All-Region first team honors. For each of the five regions, 12 rowers, and if nominated, a coxswain, received first team honors and were eligible for national recognition.
Coach Jim Dietz's team captured its seventh consecutive A-10 championship in 2002, and his Varsity 8 boat finished the season ranked as the nation's 24th-best boat in the final USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll.
