Crew Claims Gold At Avaya Championships

AMHERST, Mass. -- The UMass women's crew team's Varsity 8 and second Varsity 8 boat's captured titles at the PIRA Regatta/Avaya Collegiate Rowing Championships Sunday afternoon on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
The Minutewomen beat Villanova and Delaware to claim the varsity 8 title in 6:58.42. The UMass boat included coxswain Megan Mastropolo (Old Tappan, N.J.), Sarah Pollman (Hamm, Germany), Lea Jakobsen (Copenhagen, Denmark), Colleen Banfield (Billerica, Mass.), Lauren Cromwell (Missoula, Montana), Katie O'Brien (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Elizabeth Robb (Falmouth, Mass.), Hayley McGrath (Florence, Mass.) and Anna Talucci (West Chester, Pa.).
In the second varsity 8 race, UMass won in 7:33.14, beating Saint Joseph's and Delaware. The Minutewomen's novice 8, while the varsity 4 took third behind Fairfield and Delaware with a time of 8:12.65.
