AMHERST, Mass. -- The UMass women's crew team's Varsity 8 boat captured the 2002 Dad Vail Regatta title on the Schuylkill River near Philadelphia this afternoon.
The Minutewomen beat Villanova and Boston College to claim the title at one of crew's biggest collegiate races. The UMass boat included coxswain Megan Mastropolo (Old Tappan, N.J.), Sarah Pollman (Hamm, Germany), Lea Jakobsen (Copenhagen, Denmark), Colleen Banfield (Billerica, Mass.), Lauren Cromwell (Missoula, Montana), Katie O'Brien (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Elizabeth Robb (Falmouth, Mass.), Hayley McGrath (Florence, Mass.) and Anna Talucci (West Chester, Pa.).
In the junior varsity 8 race, UMass came in second to Boston College, while the freshman 4 boat finished third in its race.
The Minutewomen close out their 2002 season on Sunday, May 12, at the Avaya Collegiate Rowing Championships to be held on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
