Varsity 8 Advances To California Cup Final

AMHERST, MASS. -- The University of Masachusetts women's varsity 8 boat advanced to the finals of tomorrow's California Cup in San Diego, Calif. The Minutewomen are competing in the prestigous San Diego Crew Classic.
UMass won heat B in a time of 6:58.37, beating second-place SMU (7:01.16), Loyola (7:04.86), Sacramento State (7:07.84), Purdue (7:16.74), California-Irvine (7:24.46) and California-Santa Barbara (7:35.86). The Minutewomen's time was the third-fastest on the day among the 21 teams racing for the California Cup title, just behind the top two finishers in heat A, Duke (6:51.80) and Minnesota (6:55.28).
The Massachusetts boat line-up included coxswain Megan Mastropolo (Old Tappan, N.J.), Lea Jakobsen (Copenhagen, Denmark), Sarah Pollmann (Hamm, Germany), Kate Bonner (Nashua, N.H.), Liz Robb (Falmouth, Mass.), Katie O'Brien (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Colleen Banfield (Billerica, Mass.), Hayley McGrath (Florence, Mass.) and Anna Talucci (West Chester, Pa.).
The California Cup will conclude Sunday, April, 7, at 2:20 p.m. (Eastern) in San Diego.
