AMHERST, Mass. - Sophomore Brandy Green (Fitchburg, Mass.) was named Atlantic 10 Co-Performer of the Week for her showing, April 6th, at the So. Connecticut State University Invitational where she set a school record in the pole vault clearing 12'00.00".
That height breaks the mark set earlier this season by senior co-captain Rhianna DaCruz (Pawtucket, R.I.) who cleared 11'9.75", Feb. 9, at the Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass. In addition, Green qualifies for the ECAC Championships, held May 17-19, in Princeton, N.J. She also ran in the 100M high hurdles finishing seventh with a time of 17.41 seconds.
"Brandy has been working very hard on hard on both the vault, and the hurdles", said pole vault coach Ken O'Brien. "Both events complement each other, and she is starting to see the results of her efforts."
As a team, the University of Massachusetts women's outdoor squad, finished first with 173 points. UMass, in its season-opener, picked up wins in the 100M dash, 5000M run, 4x100M relay, pole vault and triple jump. This marks the second consecutive year in which the Minutewomen have won the SCSU Invitational. Last season, UMass collected 123 points, including wins in two events.
The Minutewomen return to action this Saturday, April 13, at Providence, R.I., for a quad-meet with Northeastern, Rhode Island and Brown.
