AMHERST, Mass. - Senior placekicker Doug White (Claremont, Calif.), a member of the University of Massachusetts football team, has been selected to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District I team. The squad, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, includes players on Division I-A and I-AA teams from the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

White, who was previously selected to the American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team, carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.73 in Management. He has also been named to the Academic All-Atlantic 10 Conference team each of the past two seasons. In addition, White serves as the president of the UMass Student Athlete Advisory Committee and the UMass Jewish Varsity Athletes, and is also the UMass representative to the Atlantic 10 Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He has also volunteered time to the Claremont Meals-On-Wheels, the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center and Habitat for Humanity.

On the field, White leads the Minutemen in scoring with 53 points so far this season, hitting eight of 10 field goal attempts and 29 of 33 extra points. He scored a career-high 10 points against Central Connecticut on Sept. 7, then tied that mark when he again scored 10 points at Richmond on Oct. 5. Over the course of his career, White has now hit on 27 of 35 field goals and 87 of 97 extra points for a total of 168 points. He is UMass' all-time leader in career field goal percentage (.771), while ranking third all-time in field goals made, and second in both extra points made and points scored among kickers.

UMass (7-3 overall, 5-2 Atlantic 10) , which is ranked 19th in the nation, returns to action on Saturday, November 16, when it plays host to Hofstra (4-6 overall, 3-5 Atlantic 10) in a 12:00 p.m. game.
